On April 7, Nikolai Fortunatov, a distinguished professor at Lobachevsky NNGU, passed away at the age of 95. This was reported by the university rector Oleg Trofimov. Nikolai Mikhailovich was a Doctor of Philological Sciences and an honored worker of higher education. For more than three decades, he headed the Department of Russian Literature at the Institute of Philology and Journalism at NNGU. During this time, the department transformed into one of the leading scientific centers in the country in the field of literary studies. Under the scientist's leadership, the conference "Boldin Readings" reached an international level. He also founded a center for literary local studies and developed an original methodology for studying regional literature. Nikolai Fortunatov's scientific interests were broad. He researched the works of Pushkin, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Melnikov-Pechersky, and Korolenko, as well as studied the poetics of literary works and textology issues. The interactive course he developed, "The History of Russia in the Reflection of Russian Literature," was awarded a medal at VDNH. The textbook "History of Russian Literature of the 19th Century" in three parts, prepared under his scientific supervision, remains one of the key aids for university students. Farewell to Nikolai Fortunatov will take place on April 9 at 11:30 at the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
