      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, an investigator from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Balakhninsky" has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a local entrepreneur. The man is accused of illegal logging of forest plantations on a particularly large scale and the sale of illegally harvested timber. According to the investigation, the suspect – the owner of a sawmill – organized the harvesting of raw materials in the territory of the Balakhninsky interdistrict forestry, the volumes of which significantly exceeded the limits of the permits. To fell coniferous species, the unscrupulous businessman attracted three workers who were unaware of his criminal intentions. During the work, at the employer's direction, they cut down trees beyond the established limit. As a result of illegal actions, from December 2024 to March 2025, more than 400 cubic meters of forest were cut down. The businessman then processed the timber into boards and sold them, appropriating the profits. The damage caused to the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the region amounted to about 16 million rubles. During the investigation, the suspect's assets were seized. A wide range of property was encumbered: a land plot, a truck, a tractor, a logging trailer, and two chainsaws. Currently, the materials of the criminal case, initiated on the grounds of crimes provided for by part 3 of article 260 (illegal logging of forest plantations committed on a particularly large scale) and part 1 of article 191.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (acquisition, storage, transportation, processing for the purpose of sale or sale of knowingly illegally harvested timber), with an approved indictment, have been sent to court for substantive consideration. The maximum penalty for the crime committed by the suspect may be up to seven years of imprisonment.
