On April 4, 2026, at 08:00 Society Three settlements are planned to be merged into one village in the Arzamas district. The corresponding bill has been submitted to the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. This concerns the village of Pustyn, the village of Menshikovo, and the rural settlement of Staraia Pustyn. After the merger, it is proposed to name the village "Pustyn." The explanatory note states that, according to regional legislation, a merger is possible in the case of the actual merging of settlements and the presence of a unified engineering, transport, and social infrastructure. All three settlements are actually connected by common infrastructure. They are linked by a regional highway and served by a single suburban route "Arzamas-Naumovka." A single precinct electoral commission No. 140 operates for residents in the village of Pustyn. There are also a fire station, a paramedic and obstetric point of the Arzamas district hospital, a cultural center, a library, an elementary school, and a kindergarten of the Chernukhinskaya secondary school, as well as a church in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and trade facilities. In Staraia Pustyn and Menshikovo, there are no social or household facilities. It was previously reported that two settlements disappeared, while another 24 changed their appearance in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
