Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded about fines for fishing until June 15.

      April 1, 2026 14:25 Society From April 1 to June 15, 2026, seasonal restrictions on amateur and sport fishing are in effect in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The measures have been introduced to preserve the fish population during the spawning period and to ensure conditions for the reproduction of aquatic biological resources. As reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region, during this period, the operational and preventive event "Spawning" will be launched, conducted jointly with representatives of fish protection and the National Guard. According to the established rules, fishing is allowed only from the shore outside spawning areas — with one float or bottom fishing rod with a maximum of two hooks per person. The use of nets, traps, electric fishing rods, and other poaching gear is prohibited. The use of motorboats and jet skis in spawning areas is also banned. The daily catch limit should generally not exceed 5 kg. The police reminded that violations of fishing rules entail administrative and criminal liability. In particular, under Article 8.37 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, a fine of up to 5,000 rubles may be imposed, with possible confiscation of the vessel and fishing gear. Criminal liability under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation arises when significant damage is caused, illegal fishing occurs in spawning areas, or prohibited fishing methods are used. In such cases, the punishment may reach imprisonment for up to two years, and if the crime is committed by a group of individuals — up to five years. Additionally, violators are required to compensate for the damage caused to aquatic biological resources. It is also worth noting that a ban on fishing in wintering holes is in effect until April 30.
