Nizhny Novgorod region helps restore the forests of Donbas.
On March 30, 2026, at 10:26, the Nizhny Novgorod region sent four kilograms of common pine seeds to the Luga Forest Seed Breeding and Seed Production Center for preparatory work on growing planting material, which will be used for the restoration of forests in the Donetsk People's Republic. The seeds, harvested from the forest fund lands of the Nizhny Novgorod region, are adapted to the climatic conditions of the DPR. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry.
"By assisting in the restoration of the forests of the Donetsk People's Republic, we are contributing to the preservation of the ecological balance and biodiversity of the region. The seeds are selected taking into account the climatic features of the area, and modern technologies are used in the cultivation of planting material. I am confident that our joint efforts will restore the forest areas of the republic and preserve the natural heritage for future generations," noted the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Roman Vorobyov.
The sowing planting material is directed to the GAU NО "Semyonovsky Special Seed Forest Enterprise," which is subordinate to the ministry. In the Luga LSS Center, planting material with a closed root system will be grown, which will significantly increase the survival rate of forest plants and contribute to the formation of sustainable forest plantations.
The supply of seeds is systematic. In 2025, 9 kg of common pine seeds were already sent to the Donetsk People's Republic. At the same time, the Nizhny Novgorod region provides support not only with sowing but also with planting material, and shares professional experience, modern technologies, and methods of reforestation.
As reported by the Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod region, cooperation is carried out within the framework of an interaction agreement concluded in 2022. It provides for not only the restoration of forests but also the development of the forestry infrastructure of the DPR.
Thus, in 2024, the Nizhny Novgorod forestry was established in the Amvrosievsky forestry (DPR). This initiative emphasizes the long-term nature of cooperation and the focus on creating sustainable solutions. Additionally, in 2025, another batch of necessary humanitarian aid was delivered to the Amvrosievsky forestry. Forest firefighters received specialized equipment, including motor pumps, radios, firecrackers, and backpack forest fire extinguishers, which significantly enhances readiness to combat fires. Important tools such as measuring forks and compasses were handed over to the foresters. Wildlife inspectors were provided with personal video recorders to enhance the efficiency of their work and control compliance with the law.
This comprehensive interaction demonstrates the readiness for comprehensive support from the Nizhny Novgorod region in matters of restoring natural resources and ensuring ecological safety in the Donetsk People's Republic, which aligns with the objectives of the federal project "Forest Conservation," part of the national project "Ecological Well-Being." It aims to increase the area of reforestation and preserve the country's natural resources.
Let us remind you that since 2025, the national project "Ecological Well-Being," initiated by President Vladimir Putin, has been in effect in Russia, fulfilling tasks previously outlined in the national project "Ecology." The new national project focuses on caring for the environment and improving its comfort for human life. The national project includes six federal projects: "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Preservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Conservation," "Closed Cycle Economy," and "Clean Air."
