March 29, 2026 21:42 Culture and Leisure NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" - Anastasia Nazarova Mark Eidelshtein presented the film "The Cosmos is Falling Asleep" (16+) in Nizhny Novgorod, reports NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent. "The Cosmos is Falling Asleep" is the first feature film by director Anton Mamykin, which caused a sensation at the debut film festival "Spirit of Fire," held from March 12 to 16 in Khanty-Mansiysk. The film won five awards, including the main prize of the competition – the "Golden Taiga" named after Sergey Solovyov for the best domestic debut film. Also, Mark Eidelshtein, a native of Nizhny Novgorod, received the Alexander Abdulov award for best male role. "The Cosmos is Falling Asleep" is the story of a student from a prestigious university, a future rocket engineer, who is forced to return to his small homeland – the distant village of Shoyna, where houses are gradually being buried under sand. Anton Mamykin shared that the search for an actor for the lead role was not easy. At one point, the casting director "in a fit of madness" suggested Mark Eidelshtein as a candidate. "For some reason, I was against it. But when he recorded the auditions, and then we talked, I was surprised at how accurately he fit the character," the director admitted. Answering the question of what feeling the audience should leave the hall with, Mamykin noted: "The film is complex from an emotional point of view. I want the viewers to leave with an inner light and a sense of hope." Journalists also managed to speak with the lead actor, who had a fever the day before the preview. Despite this, the actor did not refuse the press. "I think the main character's dream is not to fly into space, but to give people the opportunity to go beyond the possible. He believes that one can think bigger and should think broader. I resonate with him very much. I would also like to show that going beyond the limits of the possible is possible," Eidelshtein said. Later, already on stage at Nizhny Novgorod's "Record," he addressed the audience: "If after watching the film you dedicated time to your dream, formulated it, or thought about how to realize it, that would be cool!" It was previously reported that Mark Eidelshtein played war photographer Robert Capa in an English-language biopic. He also joined the cast of the eight-part psychological techno-thriller "Hackers" with Ivan Yankovsky. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
