New rules for women's health check-ups have been introduced in Nizhny Novgorod.
On March 28, 2026, at 12:18 Society In Russia, the rules for women's health check-ups have been updated: now the program includes a test for the detection of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA. This is stated in the medical recommendations aimed at assessing the reproductive health of men and women. A new study is conducted for women aged 21 to 49 once every five years. If the test result is positive, examinations are conducted more frequently—annually. This allows for a more accurate assessment of the likelihood of developing oncological diseases. Additionally, when HPV is detected, women must now undergo liquid-based cytological examination of the cervix annually. This method helps to detect abnormal changes at early stages of cancer. Previously, such cytological examinations were conducted less frequently: for women aged 21-29, once every three years, and for those aged 30-49, once every five years. Earlier, gynecologist Maria Milyutina explained the necessity of vaccination against HPV. It is also worth noting that the procedure for medical examinations of conscripts has changed in Russia.
