Nizhny Novgorod Cossacks joined the reserve "BARS-NN"

      Representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the all-Russian public organization "Union of Cossack Warriors of Russia and Abroad" have signed contracts and entered the mobilization reserve "BARS-NN". Among the first are veterans of the special military operation (SMO) and reserve officers. Volunteers were supported by the ataman of the regional branch for the development of Cossacks, Igor Gruzdev. According to him, joining the reserve continues the historical traditions of the Cossacks. Reservists will be involved in protecting Nizhny Novgorod enterprises from drone attacks. One of the reservists with the call sign "Makar" returned from the front line of the SMO in the fall of 2025 after his fourth volunteer contract. He served in the Cossack detachments "Don," "Yenisei," "Rus," and was awarded the Order of Courage. As part of "BARS-NN," he intends to apply the experience gained to protect the region's industrial complex. Another reservist with the call sign "Melnick," who works at one of the factories, joined the reserve together with his brother. Before their departure for special training, a prayer service was held at the Church of St. Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. The service as part of "BARS-NN" takes place in the Nizhny Novgorod region and does not involve sending personnel to the special military operation zone. Recruitment is conducted on a voluntary basis through military commissariats of municipal formations by signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Russia through the commander of the military unit. The contract allows combining primary work with military training and gatherings. Reservists are provided with monetary support, equipment, and uniforms. During the gatherings, their jobs and salaries are preserved, and life and health insurance, medical assistance, and free meals are provided. By the decree of Governor Gleb Nikitin, additional support measures have been established for participants of the mobilization reserve "BARS-NN" and their families. Children are provided with free places in kindergartens, meals in schools, sports sections and extended day groups, subsidized vouchers to camps and sanatoriums in the Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as priority rights for transfer to schools near their homes. Families are guaranteed priority free medical assistance under the State Guarantee Program for providing medical care to the population of the Nizhny Novgorod region for the current year.
