Expert Moseev: the revived Volga is targeting the premium segment
The revived Volga brand will be positioned as a premium brand rather than a mass-market one, said former director of the Association of Russian Automobile Dealers (ROAD) Oleg Moseev. According to him, the company aims for rapid large-scale sales and expansion of its dealer network in the coming years.
The expert notes that by the end of 2026, the manufacturer intends to sell about 30,000 Volga cars in Russia, and in 2027, to reach a level of 80,000 cars sold per year. To achieve this, the dealer network is planned to be expanded to 130 centers this year and approximately to 150 by 2027, which should ensure the brand's availability in most major cities of the country.
According to Moseev, starting from 2028, the company plans to transition to the production of its own Volga model with a higher degree of localization, rather than just crossovers based on the platforms of Chinese partners. Earlier, the head of the Volga brand, Tatyana Fadeeva, stated that the brand's task is to localize critically important components — the engine, transmission, electronics — as much as possible and to develop its own generations of models.
Currently, the brand's lineup includes the mid-size crossover Volga K50, created on the Geely Monjaro components and featuring a distinctive design with a large Volga inscription and an original grille. Sales of the K50 are scheduled to start in the summer of 2026; in the brand's near-term plans are the release of a more compact crossover Volga K40 and a sedan Volga C50, which should expand the brand's presence in different classes.
According to Moseev, the strategic goal of the project is to establish Volga specifically in the premium niche, competing with more expensive versions of mass-market brands, rather than through price dumping. The expert believes that the brand's success will depend on how well the manufacturer can combine the prestigious image of "Volga" with modern technologies and the level of service expected by customers in the upper price segment.
