The claim of the Nizhny Novgorod shipyard to Schottel can be considered under Swedish law.
March 25, 2026 13:08 Economy Representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod shipbuilding plant "Krasnoe Sormovo" and the German company Schottel have reached an agreement on the possibility of considering a dispute over the return of €2 million under Swedish law. This is the legal framework under which the contract was concluded, which ultimately was not fulfilled, reports "Ъ-Privolzhye". The issue concerns the prepayment for the azimuth thrusters, which were never delivered. The shipyard insists that the amount should be returned as restitution. The company believes that after the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions in 2022, the supplier took no steps to fulfill its obligations or to return the funds, despite the possibility of supplying dual-use products. Schottel explains the contract failure by force majeure circumstances. The company's lawyers point out that restrictions on financial operations and deliveries made the execution of the agreement impossible. At the same time, the prosecutor's office holds a different position. They believe that the dispute should be considered under Russian law, and the actions of the former partner of the shipyard may be classified as unjust enrichment. It was previously reported that the Nizhny Novgorod court sided with "Krasnoe Sormovo" in a dispute with the Dutch company Yanmar Europe B.V. The shipbuilding enterprise managed to recover €1.75 million. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
