      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, transport police caught poachers red-handed at the crime scene. Three local residents decided to profit from sturgeon in the Oka River near the village of Dudenovo, but instead of fishing rods, they used a prohibited fishing gear for snagging, apparently wanting to guarantee a catch to take home.

      According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volga Federal District, each of the men managed to catch three individuals of fish listed in the Red Book of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The total damage to nature was estimated at more than 40,000 rubles.

      The prohibited fishing gear and the entire catch - nine sturgeons - were confiscated from the poachers. Now each of them faces criminal charges under the article "Illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources." The maximum penalty for this is up to two years of imprisonment.

      Moreover, the fishermen will have to pay a fine. For each caught sturgeon, 4,572 rubles. So, the fish, to put it mildly, turned out to be golden.
