      Three fishermen became subjects of a criminal case after catching nine sturgeons in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volga Federal District. Employees of the Nizhny Novgorod Transport Police conducted a raid on the Oka River near the village of Dudenovo in the Pavlovsky district. The police discovered three local residents who were fishing using prohibited snagging gear. Each of them caught three sturgeons, which is assessed as damage to the environment amounting to over 40,000 rubles. Law enforcement officers seized the illegal fishing equipment and the catch itself. It is worth noting that the sturgeon is listed in the Red Book of the Nizhny Novgorod region. A decision is being made regarding the initiation of a criminal case against each of the men on suspicion of illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources (part 1 of article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The fishermen face up to two years of imprisonment. In addition to the punishment chosen by the court, they will also be required to pay damages, in this case, 4,572 rubles for each caught individual.
