      March 24, 2026 16:11 Society The head of the Upper Volga Basin Water Management Authority of Rosvodresurs has been appointed Alexander Gridnev, who previously held the position of Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. This information has been posted on the official website of the agency. Before his appointment, the duties of the head of the authority were temporarily performed by Lyubov Makhova. The Upper Volga Basin Water Management Authority is an interregional territorial body of the Federal Agency for Water Resources. The structure is responsible for providing state services and managing federal property in the field of water resources within its competence. The area of responsibility of the authority covers the Volga basin up to the border with the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as the Uglich, Rybinsk, Gorky, Cheboksary, and Kuibyshev reservoirs. The agency operates in the territories of Vladimir, Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Penza, and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Chuvashia, Mari El, and Mordovia. Among the tasks of the authority is the organization of territorial redistribution of surface water runoff, as well as replenishing the reserves of underground water bodies. In addition, the structure implements measures to prevent negative impacts of water and eliminate its consequences concerning federal water bodies located in the territories of two or more regions within its area of activity. The agency also conducts activities to protect water bodies that are entirely located within the borders of individual subjects of the Russian Federation, if their water resources are used for drinking and household water supply for two or more regions of the country.
