Yuri Stankevich on migrants: "They should leave their rules at home."
March 23, 2026 16:46 Politics The State Duma has adopted a package of bills aimed at strengthening control in the field of labor migration. The documents mark another stage in the formation of a comprehensive system for monitoring the stay and employment of foreigners, which the parliament has been building over the past two years. According to the new regulations, labor migrants are required to provide for themselves and their family members residing in Russia at a level established in the region of stay. In addition, a fixed advance payment is introduced for each family member. Failure to meet these requirements may result in the patent or work permit not being issued or being revoked, and the duration of stay in the country being shortened. The control powers are also being expanded: tax authorities and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will check the income of foreign citizens. It is also established that the children of migrants who are in Russia for work must leave the country within 30 days after reaching adulthood. Grounds for refusal or cancellation of a temporary residence permit or residence permit will be labor activity of less than 10 months within a year. For certain categories of migrants, an increase in the amount of monthly fixed advance payments is provided. State Duma deputy from the Nizhny Novgorod region Yuri Stankevich noted that the changes adopted are aimed at increasing the transparency and legality of the stay of foreign citizens in Russia. According to him, the new measures will strengthen control over the income of migrants and their compliance with legal requirements. "Every foreigner coming to Russia must understand: our hospitality is directly dependent on the degree of respect guests have for the traditions and moral guidelines of our great country. They should leave their statutes at home," the parliamentarian stated. It should be noted that a decree has been signed in the Nizhny Novgorod region to extend the current model of labor migration regulation for 2026. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
