Permits for spring bird hunting have started to be issued in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
March 20, 2026 19:02 Society Starting from March 20, the Nizhny Novgorod region has begun issuing permits for the hunting of feathered game as part of the spring hunting season. The document can be obtained from the regional Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection, as well as its territorial subdivisions. As reported by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Roman Vorobyov, more than 6,000 hunters apply for permits annually before the start of the spring season. He noted that obtaining a permit imposes an obligation on hunters to provide information about their catch at the end of the season, including cases where hunting was unsuccessful. If the reporting is not submitted within the established deadlines, the applicant may be denied the issuance of a new permit for up to one year. The agency also reminded about the dates of the spring season in the region. Hunting for male ducks using live decoys is allowed from April 1 to May 10 throughout the hunting grounds of the region. Game birds (capercaillie and black grouse), as well as woodcock in the southern zone, can be hunted from April 11 to April 20. In the northern zone, these species are available from April 18 to April 27. Hunting for waterfowl (geese, brent geese, and male ducks, except for hunting male ducks using live decoys) in the southern zone will take place from April 18 to April 27. In the northern zone, this period is set from April 25 to May 4. It was previously reported that in the Dalnekonstantinovsky district, the shooting of foxes was permitted due to rabies.
