Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Technical College will renovate both educational buildings.

March 21, 2026 09:14 Society The Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Technical College will renovate both educational buildings thanks to the federal project "Professionalism" of the national project "Youth and Children." One of the buildings, where workshops for "Professionalism" were previously established, will be transformed during 2026. The second educational building is planned to be updated in 2027. A total of about 185 million rubles will be allocated for the two-year major renovation.

On March 20, the educational institution was visited by the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Checherin and the Minister of Education of the region Mikhail Puchkov. The college director Dmitry Yashenkov conducted a tour for the guests. A representative of the college's partner enterprise, Deputy General Director of the branch of PJSC "United Aircraft Corporation" – Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Plant "Sokol" for personnel management Pyotr Kovshov also communicated with the students and teachers of the institution.

As reminded by the regional Ministry of Education, by the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, an educational-production cluster in the field of "Machine Engineering (Aerospace)" will be created based on the Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Technical College. Today, seven zones for various types of work are functioning here: economic calculations, electronic modeling, machining and assembly of aircraft parts, assembly of aircraft, technical measurements, and quality control.

"I am pleasantly surprised by the state of the college: what was here a couple of years ago and what exists now is incomparable. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the "Professionalism" program, it has been possible to significantly improve the material and technical base. We saw not only fresh repairs, new furniture, and computers, but also the most modern equipment – the same as at Nizhny Novgorod enterprises. Most importantly, students are offered advanced educational technologies, meaning that a college graduate comes to the factory already as a true specialist who does not need retraining," said Andrey Checherin.

According to the deputy head of the region, about 400 million rubles have already been attracted for the modernization of the college, of which almost 100 million rubles are employer funds.

"I want to once again thank Nizhny Novgorod enterprises for investing in the development of our system of secondary vocational education. "Professionalism" is a synergy of the state and business. We prepare personnel for enterprises, and under this "order," enterprises essentially create a production plan. Every student clearly knows where they will be in demand, how much they can earn, and how they can grow in the industry. Children in colleges and technical schools have started to feel differently: they want to come here to study, they want to master working professions. Today, being a working person is prestigious," emphasized Andrey Checherin.

Students from junior and senior courses shared their plans for further education and employment. Among the students, there are many "targeted" students who are expected at specific enterprises for specific tasks.

"I have been interested in airplanes since childhood, so I enrolled in the Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Technical College. I am currently in my second year, now I am undergoing locksmith practice, and next year I will have production practice at the factory. In the future, I plan to obtain higher education as well; I dream of working as a designer," said student Irina Varfolomeeva.

A representative of the Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Plant "Sokol" spoke about the quality of training for college graduates who come to work at the enterprise.

"The plant and the college have been connected throughout their history. Each year, the training of students becomes stronger: this is also due to the fact that many disciplines at the college are taught by specialists from the plant. The new repairs and new equipment that have appeared here have allowed us to attract more students for training – this year the competition among applicants was indeed high. Our task as a socially responsible enterprise is to direct all possible efforts to attract and support youth. Thus, targeted students receive scholarships from the plant, young employees have access to housing rental programs and mortgage interest compensation, and participation in sports and cultural events," noted Pyotr Kovshov.

According to Mikhail Puchkov, the Nizhny Novgorod Region is among the top five regions with the highest number of "Professionalism" clusters in the country. Currently, there are 16 such clusters in the region, and by this fall, there will be 19. Several applications from the region are currently being processed for the participation of Nizhny Novgorod colleges and technical schools in the selection.

"The new "Professionalism" clusters are always a reflection of the region's economy. Today, for us, the issue of creating a cluster for shipbuilding is very relevant – this industry is very developed in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and it drives our economy forward. All applications we submit to the Ministry of Education of Russia are always synchronized with the needs of enterprises so that they are provided with personnel," concluded the minister.

Let us remind you that the national project "Youth and Children" is being implemented by the order of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. It includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia – a Land of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders," and "Professionalism."
