Nizhny Novgorod residents will plant more than 400,000 trees in memory of the heroes.
On March 19, 2026, at 17:03 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 400,000 young trees are planned to be planted in 2026 as part of the international ecological-patriotic campaign "Garden of Memory." The work will take place over an area of 110 hectares. This year, the campaign (0+) started on March 18, as reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry.
The agency noted that traditionally, employees of government bodies, schoolchildren, preschool forestry students, students, and volunteers join the campaign. Participants plant trees in memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, as well as those who are defending the country today.
The head of the relevant ministry, Roman Vorobyov, emphasized that the campaign unites ecological and historical agendas. According to him, participants not only restore forests but also preserve the memory of the feats of the defenders of the Fatherland.
Reforestation activities are carried out as part of the federal project "Forest Conservation," which is included in the national project "Ecological Well-Being."
The ministry also reported that in 2025, a record was set in the region for the number of participants in the campaign — over 1,800 people. Over six years of the "Garden of Memory" campaign, more than six thousand residents of the region have joined, planting over three million trees.
Anyone wishing to participate in the campaign can do so. To do this, it is necessary to register on the project website, choose a plot on the interactive map, and join the planting.
The organizers provide participants with the necessary equipment and planting material. There is also an option for independent tree planting with subsequent addition of a point on the project map.
The main events in the Nizhny Novgorod region are planned for April — May. The plots for the campaign have already been determined by the regional Ministry of Forestry.
The campaign is conducted on the initiative of the ANO "Garden of Memory," the "Victory Volunteers" movement, and the Fund for the Memory of the Commanders of Victory with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation and the Federal Forestry Agency.
Since 2025, Russia has been implementing the national project "Ecological Well-Being," which continues the tasks of the national project "Ecology." It aims to improve the state of the environment and includes six federal projects, including "Forest Conservation," "Clean Air," and "Closed-Loop Economy."
