Mobile operator T2 became the first of the "big four" to provide the new ice palace in Nizhny Novgorod with permanent, stable connectivity. The presence of a stable network will allow fans to share their excitement from matches and stay connected even when the stands are full. The facility is scheduled to open in 2026.
Operator T2 continues to expand its network in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Its focus is on venues where traffic consumption can reach peak levels. Technically complex buildings, such as the ice palace on the Strelka, require bespoke solutions from operators so subscribers remain connected even when the stands are full. Therefore T2 quickly implemented indoor coverage and was the first to provide permanent voice service and high-speed mobile internet throughout the arena.
This approach made it possible to create a reliable digital infrastructure in the ice palace that covers not only the rink itself but also the numerous technical rooms. The solution is designed for high user density and will allow thousands of guests and staff to use mobile services simultaneously without network overloads, providing comfort, safety and a modern level of digital service.
Construction of the ice palace is in its final stage. The facility is planned to be commissioned in 2026. The arena will become the "home" for Nizhny Novgorod hockey club Torpedo. The stands will seat up to 12,000 spectators, and there will also be two training rinks for 250 people each.
Alexey Sidorov, Director of the Volga Macro-Region at T2:
"Large sports facilities require a special approach when it comes to providing them with mobile connectivity. Technical specialists must take into account not only the architectural features of the building but also the fact that thousands of users will access the network at the same time. At the new arena in Nizhny Novgorod we implemented a solution that will ensure a stable LTE signal across the entire complex. The Nizhny Novgorod region is the guardian of Russian hockey traditions, so residents feel a particular fondness for the fate of the Nizhny Novgorod hockey club Torpedo. I am confident that the new ice arena will become a worthy place not only for training our athletes but also for bright, resounding victories, and T2 subscribers will be among the first to share their emotions from the matches with friends and tell them about their favorite team's results."
