The next 12-day New Year holidays for residents of Russia will come only in 2032, TASS reports.

A State Duma deputy and member of the Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans’ Affairs, Svetlana Bessarab, explained that such lengthy holidays result from the combination of official public holidays with weekends, as well as the transfer of non-working days throughout the year.

"It can be said with confidence that the tradition of extended New Year holidays is becoming established. In 2027, taking December 31 into account, Russians will be able to rest for 11 days in a row. And the longest holidays — 12 days — are possible in 2032 if the day off on January 11 falls on a Sunday," Bessarab noted.

The deputy emphasized that "long New Year holidays are especially valuable for families: they coincide with the winter school break and give parents the opportunity to spend more time with their children."

According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the official public holidays at the beginning of the year are from January 1 to January 8, including Christmas. However, the actual duration of the New Year break varies each year depending on the calendar and decisions to shift days off.

In 2026, despite the extended January holidays, the May holidays will be shorter than usual — Russians will have time off from May 1 to 3 and from May 9 to 11.

Overall, in 2026 the number of working days will be 247, and days off and public holidays 118. The same ratio will be maintained as in 2025.

Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod residents were informed about the rules for safely returning to the office after the New Year holidays.
