      December in the Nizhny Novgorod region proved almost ideal for fans of a mild winter. According to phenologist and associate professor at the Arzamas branch of NNSU Lyubov Mikhali, the month was twice as warm as the climatic norm. This was felt especially in the first ten days, when temperatures consistently hovered around zero. On average for the month, the thermometers did not fall below –4°C, reports editor-in-chief of MIA "Stacionar-Press" Alexey Nikonov.

      However, the region clearly lacked sunshine. For more than 25 days the sky remained tightly overcast, and the rare sunny breaks were short and almost imperceptible. Sharp swings in atmospheric pressure also clouded the weather picture: at the beginning of the month it rose to 762 mmHg, and by the end it fell to 730.

      True winter was also in no hurry. A stable snow cover began forming only after December 10 — almost two weeks later than usual. At the same time, meteorological and phenological winter ultimately started simultaneously, albeit with a noticeable delay.
