Flu incidence may rise in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      An increase in influenza and acute respiratory viral infections is possible in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast after the holidays. This opinion was expressed by a representative of Nizhny Novgorod’s health authorities, Alexey Nikonov, on his Telegram channel.

      Nikonov noted that a similar situation was observed in January 2025, when the number of registered cases increased by a third immediately after the end of the prolonged break. The cause of such a spike is the return of school pupils and company employees to their usual group attendance routines.

      The specialist warned that additional spread of infections is possible due to Nizhny Novgorod residents with ARVI participating in mass events during the holidays.

      In addition, during the 2026 New Year holidays doctors had to deal with a large number of patients: 22 of 27 medical call-outs were caused by acute respiratory infection. The disease is especially severe among elderly citizens over 65 and young children who have not been vaccinated against influenza.

      Earlier it was reported that from December 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026, 109 new coronavirus cases were identified in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
