"Torpedo-Gorky" secured a Christmas victory over "Zvezda".
07 January 2026 17:07 Sport. Torpedo-Gorky hockey players secured a convincing victory over Moscow's "Zvezda" on Christmas. The match ended 5:2 in favor of the Nizhny Novgorod side.
The scoring opened on the 10th minute of the first period when Yegor Nikitin converted a power play. However, the visitors from Moscow quickly equalized. Soon Nikita Shavin put the hosts back in front — 2:1.
In the second period the Gorky side continued to build their advantage: first Ruslan Gazizov extended the lead, and then Artyom Misnikov scored the fourth goal for the opponents' net. For Misnikov, this was his first goal after a long layoff.
In the final period "Zvezda" cut the deficit, but the final score was set by Gleb Chesnokov, who converted another power play — 5:2.
This game was forward Roman Opalev's 400th in the Supreme Hockey League (VHL).
After this victory Dmitry Kosmachev's team has 48 points and occupies 12th place in the standings.
The Nizhny Novgorod side will play their next match (6+) on January 17 against "Yugra".
The day before, "Torpedo" notched their first win of 2026, defeating "Barys".
