Rospotrebnadzor temporarily banned the import into Russia of certain infant formulas from Nestlé Russia due to a dangerous toxin found in the products.

The restriction covers powdered milk, fermented milk and lactose-free formulas, as well as therapeutic amino acid–based nutrition. The products in question are those under the brands "NAN 1 OPTIPRO", "NAN 2 OPTIPRO", "NAN Supreme", "NAN EXPERPRO", "NAN lactose-free", "PreNAN", "Nestogen Comfort" and "Alfare Amino", produced between 15 April and 27 November 2025.

The reason for the ban was the possible presence of the toxin cereulide in the formulas. It was detected in vegetable oils that were supplied by an external manufacturer and used as raw material.

This toxin can cause vomiting and diarrhea, which usually appear within six hours after consuming the contaminated product. Symptoms are similar to food poisoning or an allergic reaction to milk protein.

It is noted separately that these products are not subject to mandatory labeling in Russia.

Rospotrebnadzor asks parents to take this information into account when purchasing infant food. Until all circumstances are clarified, the sale and distribution of these formulas in the country is prohibited.

Earlier reports said that dangerous substances were found in the "Aloe Vera" drink.
