A record number of national policy projects have been implemented in Nizhny Novgorod.
Sixteen citywide projects aimed at strengthening interethnic and interfaith relations were implemented in Nizhny Novgorod in 2025, the Department of Social Communications and Youth Policy of the city administration reported. This is more than twice the results of 2022. “With the support of Nizhny Novgorod’s head Yuri Shalabaev, the number, quality and diversity of projects focused on nationwide unity are growing. Special attention is paid to the younger generation,” said department director Artur Shtoyan. According to the department, in 2023 Nizhny Novgorod hosted the festival “Friendly Old New Year,” the program “Maslenitsa — Russian Traditions!” for foreign youth, the children’s street games festival “Friendly Nizhny,” and the festival of tales of different peoples “#WeAreTogether.” For the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War the media project “Heroes of Victory — Heroes of the Family” for the first time brought together about 200 Nizhny Novgorod and Belarusian schoolchildren. With the support of the Interfaith Advisory Council, a series of annual open meetings of Nizhny Novgorod youth with representatives of traditional religions has been held.
As Yuri Shalabaev noted, in 2026 special importance will be attached to the role of the language and culture of the Russian people.
