A meteorologist warned residents of Nizhny Novgorod about snowfall and temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees.

      Nizhny Novgorod residents are in for a real winter storm in the coming days. From January 7 to 9 meteorologists are forecasting heavy snowfall and blizzards.

      As Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, said, especially heavy snow is expected on Friday, January 9. In some places up to half of the monthly precipitation norm may fall in a single day.

      The most intense snowfalls will occur along the Bryansk—Tula—Nizhny Novgorod line. By the weekend the height of snowdrifts may reach half a meter, and in some places exceed it.

      Snowdrifts are almost certain to form on the M-4, M-5 and M-12 highways. Drivers should be especially cautious and, if possible, postpone long trips.

      Immediately after the last cyclone passes, Arctic air will begin to move into the region. Already on the night of Saturday, January 10, sharp frosts down to −20 degrees are expected in the central regions, including the Nizhny Novgorod region.
