The year 2025 was one of the warmest in a century in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

This was reported on his Telegram channel by Nizhny Novgorod State University press secretary Alexey Nikonov, citing data from the phenologist of the university’s Arzamas branch, Mikhail Lyubov.

      According to the specialist, the region’s mean annual temperature approached +7 degrees Celsius, about two degrees above the established climatic norm. The highest temperature, +36 degrees Celsius, was recorded in July, and the lowest values were registered only twice: −24 degrees in January and −29 degrees in December. In addition, an absolute temperature record for Arzamas was broken in March — the air warmed to +18 degrees Celsius.

      Lyubov noted that spring arrived noticeably earlier than usual. As early as March 5 the temperature rose to a stable above-freezing level; by March 8 the snow had disappeared from the fields, and about a week later — from the forests as well.

      Plants also responded to the early warmth: bird cherry bloomed in late April, and lilacs in early May.

      Annual precipitation exceeded the norm — more than 580 mm versus the standard 525 mm. August was the wettest month. At the same time, only 17 thunderstorms were recorded during the year. Autumn and winter arrived in the region later than usual.

      According to Mikhail Lyubov, the past year confirmed a trend toward a milder cold season and a shift in the usual seasonal boundaries. He noted that nature increasingly lives “not by the calendar” but in accordance with new climatic conditions.

      Earlier, an NNSU expert stated that frosts on New Year’s in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast have become rare.
