On the night of December 30, a fire broke out in an apartment building on Chelyuskintsev Street in the Avtozavodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the apartment was already heavily filled with smoke. The area of the fire was 5 square meters; the fire was promptly extinguished. Twenty-eight EMERCOM personnel and six units of equipment took part in extinguishing the fire.

Ten people were evacuated from the building's entrance. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save a 74-year-old man who had been in the burning apartment.

According to preliminary data, the tragedy was caused by carelessness while smoking. EMERCOM of Russia once again reminds the public not to leave a cigarette unattended, not to smoke while intoxicated, to use an ashtray and to arrange a safe place for smoking. Before leaving, be sure the cigarette is completely extinguished.

Earlier it was reported that 25 people were evacuated due to a blast in the basement of a multi-apartment building in the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod.
