      Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed that a report be presented on the criminal case concerning violations of environmental protection legislation in the Sosnovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. This was reported by the agency’s information center.

      Information about the violations appeared in the media. It was reported that a section of the forested area near the village of Turkovo had previously been transferred into the ownership of entrepreneurs. The land had been reclassified as agricultural land. Currently, active felling of trees and shrubs is taking place on the territory.

      The remains of the wood are being stored and burned on site, with vehicle tires being used. Such actions lead to environmental pollution and the formation of an unauthorized dump.

      Local residents repeatedly appealed to various authorities, but their complaints yielded no result.

      The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has opened a criminal case regarding the violations. Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional department, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to report on the progress of the investigation. The execution of the instruction is being monitored by the agency’s central office.

      Earlier it was reported that the Nizhny Novgorod Investigative Committee had opened a criminal case over the felling of rare trees in the Borsky district.
