Businessman Kartushin will be tried in Nizhny Novgorod.

      The criminal case against Nizhny Novgorod entrepreneur and lawyer Dmitry Kartushin, accused of large-scale fraud, has been transferred from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod on jurisdictional grounds. According to Kommersant, a Moscow court made that decision.

      According to the investigation, Kartushin, who worked in the real estate sector, was involved in the embezzlement of funds in the execution of a contract with the Social Insurance Fund. The contract concerned audits of buildings in more than 80 regions of Russia for a total amount of 220 million rubles.

      The investigation claims that about 80 million rubles were stolen, and part of those funds were subsequently legalized. Kartushin has been charged with particularly large-scale fraud and money laundering.

      The businessman's lawyers insist on his innocence and say that Kartushin was framed by former business partners.

      The criminal case was opened in 2024. Initially Kartushin appeared in it as a witness, but he was later detained as a suspect.

      By decision of Moscow's Tagansky District Court the entrepreneur was remanded in custody.

      It was previously reported that the denial of conditional early release to the former head of Nizhny Novgorod, Oleg Sorokin, was deemed lawful.
