The cost of OSAGO may rise in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      From December 9, 2025, updated rules for calculating the cost of OSAGO policies will come into force in Russia. This was reported by the Bank of Russia.

      According to explanations from the Central Bank, for all categories of vehicles except motorcycles, the bounds of the tariff range will be increased by 15% in both directions. For motorcycles, an even greater expansion is planned — by 40%.

      As the regulator notes, the aim of the changes is to give insurance companies more opportunities to accurately assess the risks of individual drivers. This will allow policy prices to be formed more fairly and on an individual basis.

      The Central Bank emphasized that over the past three years base rates for private car owners have not been revised, despite the fact that the average size of an OSAGO insurance payout over that period increased by roughly one and a half times.

      According to the agency, over the first nine months of 2025 the average price of a policy fell by 4%, despite the rise in insurance payouts. This was one of the reasons the regulator decided to adjust the tariff corridor.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, in connection with these changes, an adjustment of the territorial coefficient (KT), which also affects the insurance price, is possible. This means that the cost of policies in the region may both rise and fall — drivers with good records may be given a discount, while those who are frequently involved in accidents, on the contrary, may see their OSAGO costs increase.

      Recall that in January 2025 the territorial OSAGO coefficient in the Nizhny Novgorod region was reduced.
