The Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, state corporation Rostec and seven regions of the Russian Federation are joining forces to create a network of rehabilitation centers that will increase access to high-tech prosthetics in the regions. The relevant tripartite agreements were signed in the Federation Council.

Under the agreement, the joint development of high-tech prosthetics and rehabilitation centers — branches of the Center for Innovations in Traumatology and Orthopedics — is planned. Their main task is to provide patients, including veterans of the special military operation (SMO), with access to modern prostheses as close to their place of residence as possible. The creation of modern infrastructure and the implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation model will enable people who have sustained severe injuries to regain mobility and return to active life. The work is being carried out on the instructions of the President of Russia.

Such centers are already operating in Moscow, Izhevsk, Saint Petersburg, Omsk and a number of other cities. The network will continue to expand: new institutions will soon open in Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk and Ryazan. By 2027, a total of 25 branches of the Center for Innovations in Traumatology and Orthopedics (CITO) equipped with in‑house full-cycle prosthesis manufacturing facilities are planned to be established in various regions of the country.

Chair of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko emphasized the particular importance of developing high-tech prosthetics for helping participants in the special military operation who were wounded in the line of duty return to a full life. According to her, modern technologies make it possible for people to regain freedom of movement, learn new professions, work, start families and even take up sports, and today this task is a top state priority.

In the future regional centers patients will be able to receive highly functional prostheses, learn how to use them and, under specialists’ guidance, restore movement skills on modern simulators. Particular attention will be paid to physical rehabilitation and sports, which is especially important for participants in the special military operation. The program was initiated by the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation.

State Secretary — Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation and chair of the foundation Anna Tsivileva noted that the signing of the agreements expands the list of regions where sites for comprehensive high-tech prosthetics will be established. She stressed that this will improve the quality and accessibility of the support system for veterans of the special military operation, precisely where it is most needed — in the regions and municipalities.
