An indoor ice arena for bandy may appear in Nizhny Novgorod.

      27 November 2025 17:17 Sport — In Nizhny Novgorod they discussed prospects for building an indoor ice arena for bandy. Sergey Myaus, Director of the Russian Bandy Federation for interaction with the executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and international sports organizations, arrived in the city on a working visit.       During a meeting at the Legislative Assembly he spoke with parliamentarian and member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Bandy Federation, Vasily Sukhanov. The main topic of the conversation was the development of Russian bandy as one of the country’s traditional sports.

      According to Myaus, it is now important to unite the efforts of the authorities, business and the sports community to restore interest in bandy and give it new momentum.

      He stressed that special attention should be paid to training homegrown players and coaches in clubs. It is also planned to update the regulations and put transfers of athletes between teams in order.

      Chairman of the Board of HC Start, Vasily Sukhanov, noted that sports such as bandy, sambo, kettlebell sport and hand-to-hand combat should become part of the system of patriotic education in the region.

      One of the key points discussed was the construction of an indoor ice arena. The parties agreed to continue joint work on this project.

      "This has long been a sore point for the region and Start’s players, but I hope that with the support of the Russian Bandy Federation and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region we will finally be able to close this issue and provide athletes with a comfortable place for regular year‑round training and for hosting matches," Sukhanov summed up.

      Earlier it was reported that the day before Start had earned its first home victory over the Russian champion.
