The cost of building a bypass road around Balakhna in the Nizhny Novgorod region has increased to 30 billion rubles. This was reported by representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod Ministry of Transport in response to a question from a social media follower.

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod asked when the authorities plan to build the Balakhna bypass. In reply, representatives of the regional Ministry of Transport explained that the possibility of implementing the project with private investors is currently being considered.

The first section of the bypass was commissioned back in 2008. But to complete the project, another 24.6 km of road must be built, including seven bridges.

Earlier, the second phase of construction was part of a federal program. It was subsequently removed from it. Work at the site was suspended.

In 2020 the project received a positive state expert review. In 2023 the region applied for a federal grant of 22.06 billion rubles; construction was planned to begin in 2024. However, according to the Nizhny Novgorod Ministry of Transport, the funds allocated for these purposes were reallocated by a government decision.

It was previously reported that work to widen the road in the area of the settlement of Nizhegorodets will resume in the near future.
