A criminal case has been opened into the torture of children at a kindergarten in Gorodets.

      The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has opened a criminal case over the alleged cruel treatment of children in one of the kindergartens in the town of Gorodets. The trigger was a segment by the TV channel "Kstati" (16+).

      By order of the head of the regional investigative department, Ayrat Akhmetshin, an investigator from the Gorodets interdistrict division is investigating a criminal case under the article on torture/ill‑treatment.

      According to parents, children return from the preschool with broken fingers, bruises and burns. In one case a child suffered a crushed phalanx but was not given assistance. The caregiver claimed the child injured themself.

      Parents also said that the caregiver treats the children roughly and forcibly feeds them foods they are intolerant to. The kindergarten’s management and the education department, according to the victims, do not respond to complaints.

      The investigation intends to establish all the circumstances of the incident and to give a legal assessment of the actions of the institution’s staff.

      At the same time, the Nizhny Novgorod Region Prosecutor’s Office has launched a check of compliance with legislation in the provision of educational and upbringing services, as well as the conditions of children’s stay in the kindergarten. The progress of the criminal investigation is under the control of the supervisory authority.

      Earlier it was reported that a resident of Kulebaki was sentenced to nine years under a strict regime for shooting at children.
