"Mouse" fever was detected in the Arzamas district.
28 November 2025 10:07 Society. An increase in cases of "mouse" hemorrhagic fever has been recorded in the Arzamas district. The district administration reported this on the social network VKontakte.
According to local authorities, four cases of infection have been registered since the beginning of the year. The infection was detected in the settlements of Berezovka, Bolshoy Tumanov, Kotikha and Selyakino. All the infected contracted the virus while working on garden plots.
The administration noted that the previous case in the Arzamas district was recorded in 2022. According to Rospotrebnadzor, a total of 338 cases of hemorrhagic fever have been registered across the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is 8% more compared with the same period last year.
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, or "mouse" fever, is an acute viral disease transmitted by mice and other small rodents. Most often infection occurs when inhaling dust containing particles of rodent droppings. The disease manifests as severe intoxication, high fever, weakness, joint pain and impaired kidney function. The virus is not transmitted from person to person.
To reduce the risk of infection, specialists recommend following preventive measures: regularly ventilate premises, use masks and gloves when cleaning, monitor the cleanliness of food and water, protect housing from rodents and carry out rodent control on the property.
It should be noted that infected rodents are found throughout almost the entire region, including Nizhny Novgorod. By the end of 2024 the region was among the five federal subjects with the highest incidence in the country.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor specialists warned residents of Nizhny Novgorod about a dangerous disease — mycoplasma infection, which can present like an ordinary cold.
