Ayrat Gibatdinov, a senator and father of two, has proposed setting the minimum amount of child support at no less than half the minimum wage (MROT). The proposal was supported by deputies of the State Duma.
Gibatdinov told 360.ru that his decision is based on numerous appeals from citizens who have faced problems with child support. In some cases fathers evade payments, take informal jobs or underreport their income, which leads to extremely low child support payments — only 3–4 thousand rubles. In the senator’s view, this is unacceptable, as such payments cannot provide a decent standard of living for a child.
The senator emphasized that his initiative is aimed at increasing parents’ responsibility for their children. He is confident that establishing a minimum threshold for child support will make dishonest fathers approach their obligations more responsibly.
From 1 January 2026 the minimum wage (MROT) will be 27,093 rubles per month. This means the minimum amount of child support should be no less than 13,546 rubles.
Recall that on 25 May 2025 an official registry of child support debtors was launched in Russia. People are added to it if there is administrative or criminal liability for refusing to pay child support. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
