Students of Shatkovskaya Secondary School in the Nizhny Novgorod Region held an open lesson for their peers following a trip to Saint Petersburg. A total of 33 tenth-grade students of the school were selected to participate in the special train of the tourist-educational project "Lessons with Travel." In total, about 500 Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren and first-year students of colleges and technical schools from various districts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region were able to visit Saint Petersburg. All of them have high achievements in academics, sports and patriotic activities.
According to Shatkovskaya Secondary School, the students spent three days on the trip. They gained knowledge both during city excursions and along the way — lessons were held right on the train.
The tenth-graders decided to share their impressions with the students of class 6 "G". A talk and a presentation were prepared for them, dedicated to the historical connection between the Shatkovsky district and besieged Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War. The trip participants also showed personal photos and videos from the journey.
"We told the children about memorable events of the Great Patriotic War, including the history of our native land. Not everyone knows that Tanya Savicheva, who kept a diary of besieged Leningrad, after her mother's death had to move to the Gorky Region. The girl was placed in a children's home in the settlement of Krasny Bor," noted 10th-grade student Ksenia Ovchinnikova.
A quiz on the theme "The Siege of Leningrad" was also organized for the sixth-graders. In the first round, the students had to quickly answer six questions about the siege within a limited time. In the second round, the children were to create a sketch of a monument to the children of besieged Leningrad. The third stage included a discussion of the impressions gained from the excursion and the materials presented in the lesson.
The director of Shatkovskaya Secondary School, Mikhail Inzhutov, expressed confidence that projects like "Lessons with Travel" have a positive effect on students' overall academic performance.
"History is closely linked to other disciplines in the educational program. A good knowledge of historical eras, dates and biographies of outstanding figures allows for a deeper study of literature, social studies and other subjects. I believe that the project is very successful. We are sincerely grateful to the organizers for enabling our children to go on such a significant trip this year!" he said.
Recall that the interregional tourist-educational project "Lessons with Travel" started in November 2023 with a trip of Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren to Volgograd, and Volgograd schoolchildren to the capital of the Volga region. Its initiator was the parent community of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The project received support from the governors of Nizhny Novgorod and Volgograd regions, Gleb Nikitin and Andrey Bocharov. In turn, the organization of the project's special train to Minsk and Brest was supported by the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
The special train to Saint Petersburg was organized jointly with the "More Than a Lesson" project. This is part of the Rosmolodezh program of civic-patriotic and socially useful youth tourism "More Than a Journey." The trip took place under the auspices of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.
The implementation of the project allows for the development of youth tourism. This is one of the tasks carried out by the new national project "Tourism and Hospitality," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In turn, Rosmolodezh's "More Than a Journey" program is implemented within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children." Through trips around the regions, hikes and excursions, young people develop a civic identity, and patriotism and social responsibility toward the Motherland are instilled in them.
