The debt of Nizhny Novgorod businesses to banks reached 929 billion rubles.

      November 21, 2025, 11:33 Economy The total indebtedness of Nizhny Novgorod businesses to banks as of October 1, 2025, reached 929.9 billion rubles. According to the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia, this is roughly the same as at the beginning of the year, but 7.1% higher than a year ago. The growth of corporate lending in the region has been restrained by high interest rates, largely due to the Central Bank's policy of keeping the key rate high to reduce demand and slow price growth. From January to September 2025, banks issued loans to companies and individual entrepreneurs in the Nizhny Novgorod region totaling 733.9 billion rubles. Of that amount, large enterprises received 535.9 billion rubles, and small and medium-sized businesses received 198 billion rubles. The largest volumes of borrowed funds were directed to manufacturing, trade, and real estate activities, rental and paid services. The amount of funds placed by organizations and individual entrepreneurs in deposits and other accounts amounted to 690.6 billion rubles. This is 6.4% more compared with the beginning of 2025 and 5.4% higher than a year earlier. It was previously reported that the State Duma passed a law to raise VAT from 20% to 22% starting in 2026.
