At the S. Rostropovich Nizhny Novgorod State Philharmonic, the 7th "Voice of the Flute" festival (0+) will take place from November 26 to 29. This year, in addition to musicians from Nizhny Novgorod, performers from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kirov, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg and Istanbul will take part, the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region reports.
"Voice of the Flute" is a joint project of the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic and the Valery Khalilov Wind Society Association, implemented within the framework of the national project "Family" with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Nikolai Plotnikov Moscow Flute Center, the Russian National Museum of Music and the Center for the Development of Social Projects. The festival's artistic directors are the director of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Andrey Malykh and Russian flutist Irina Stachinskaya.
The festival traditionally pays special attention to supporting young talents. The forum will open at the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic on November 26 with a concert of young talents — students of children's music schools from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg and the cities of Crimea. The participation of representatives from different parts of Russia demonstrates the diversity of the domestic flute culture.
"The main task of the Association is the support and development of wind art in Russia. The 'Voice of the Flute' festival clearly shows how the professional community joins forces to educate young musicians, preserve and transmit the high traditions of the domestic wind school," said Mikhail Bryzgalov, president of the Valery Khalilov Wind Society Association, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation and member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
The festival's geography expands every year, bringing together musicians from different cities and countries. This year's invited performers include Turkish flutist-virtuoso and recipient of a Royal Belgian medal Bülent Evcil; Nikolai Popov, soloist of the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia; Olesya Tertychnaya, artist of the Honored Collective of Russia — the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich; Yana Shchrileva, principal of the flute group of the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre; Natalya Rechenskaya, soloist of the Governor's Symphony Orchestra of the Irkutsk Philharmonic; and international competition laureate Alexander Gagarinov.
The festival is also conquering new cities. On November 27, for the first time the Pavlovo Palace of Culture stage will feature, alongside renowned soloists, the Honored Wind Orchestra of the Pavlovo Palace of Culture and one of Turkey's leading ensembles, the Istanbul Flutists Ensemble. Audiences will hear works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi and Cécile Chaminade, "Venetian Carnival" by Giulio Briccialdi, Nikolai Popov's Fantasy on themes from Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Snow Maiden, and the extravagant piccolo piece Piccolo Picante by Derek Bourgeois.
On November 28 the festival will move to the ballroom interior of the Rukavishnikov Estate. Listeners will be immersed in the world of chamber music: the austere beauty of works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Telemann, the melodic grace of Antonio Vivaldi's pieces, the virtuosity of the French repertoire of Raymond Guiot and Nizhny Novgorod premieres by Aulis Sallinen and Jan Krul. The concert will feature an ensemble of soloists from the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Ponykin.
On November 29 a gala concert will be held in the Kremlin Concert Hall with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonic conducted by artistic director and chief conductor Vladimir Ponykin. The program includes the Russian premiere of Concerto No. 2 for flute and orchestra by Harry Crowl; Nizhny Novgorod premieres of the Quartet for 4 flutes and orchestra by Ottorino Respighi, the Divertissement for flute and orchestra by Raymond Gallois-Montbrun and the Mexican Fantasy for two flutes and orchestra by Samuel Zyman. The central event will be the Russian premiere of the eschatological work "The End of Time" by contemporary Turkish composer Özgür Gülbey, specially created for the Istanbul Flutists Ensemble.
Recall that since 2025, by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, new national projects have been launched in the country. Cultural events have been included in the federal project "Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure" of the national project "Family." These include activities to re-equip cinemas, municipal libraries, regional and municipal theaters and museums, events as part of the "Pushkin Card" initiative and a number of others. Overall, the national project "Family" is aimed at supporting and developing family values, creating comfortable conditions for forming healthy and happy families. The main goal of the new national project is for every family in Russia to have the opportunity to realize its potential, ensuring the harmonious development of all its members.
