On November 19, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Gneushev chaired a meeting of the regional interdepartmental commission to support participants in the special military operation and their families, which was devoted to the organization of medical screenings for participants and veterans of the SMO.
The commission’s work was attended by Sergey Vylegzhanin, deputy chairman of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation for the medical sector; representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region; the regional branch of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation; and chief physicians of medical institutions in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
“The issue of medical support for fighters returning to civilian life is very important and serious. Today we have brought together everyone involved in this process. Everything related to the health of SMO participants, especially the organization of medical screenings, must be under control. Our task is to ensure that each of them receives quality medical care and that the interdepartmental interaction system operates clearly and smoothly,” said Andrey Gneushev.
“For us the most important thing is that participants in the special operation receive the full range of high-quality and accessible medical care. We consider it important that every veteran undergo a comprehensive in-depth examination at the region’s leading institutions where the necessary specialists are available. This will help restore health as quickly and effectively as possible, return to civilian life, find employment and take up sports,” noted Sergey Vylegzhanin.
At present, the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region has identified 16 “anchor” medical organizations responsible for conducting screenings for SMO participants in the region. As required, the screening is carried out in two stages, and the list of specialists available for examinations has been expanded.
Participants in the meeting agreed that screening is a crucial stage in assessing health status, the consequences of combat injuries and wounds, and in preventing chronic diseases. The screening determines all subsequent stages of work with the patient — both medical monitoring and rehabilitation.
In turn, Sergey Vylegzhanin also answered questions from his Nizhny Novgorod colleagues and spoke about federal practice and positive examples of organizing screenings in other regions.
Meeting participants additionally discussed the provision of sanatorium-resort and psychological-psychotherapeutic assistance, and medical rehabilitation.
