The Nizhny Novgorod mayor’s office has abandoned plans to sell the building at 37a Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. This was announced at a meeting of the city duma’s standing commission on municipal property, reports a correspondent for NIA "Nizhny Novgorod".

According to Svetlana Pompaeva, chair of the committee for the management of municipal property and land resources of the city administration, the two-story non-residential building is proposed to be removed from the Forecast Plan for the privatization of municipal property for 2024–2026.

As stated in the explanatory note, the decision was made in connection with the planned transfer of the property to regional ownership. This is being done in fulfillment of the governor’s directive on the development of Nizhny Novgorod’s historical territories.

Earlier the mayor’s office planned to put the non-residential building of 558.4 sq. m up for auction together with a land plot of 1,769 sq. m. Previously the building housed the department for the city’s outdoor lighting networks and engineering protection.

In addition, a number of non-residential premises (including apartments) located at the following addresses are planned to be transferred to regional ownership: 45B Bolshaya Pecherskaya Street; 140/2 Ilyinskaya Street; 18 Chernyshevskogo Street; 49 Alesha Peshkova Street. These properties are proposed to be included in the list for transfer for gratuitous use for a period of 11 months — in accordance with a request from the Ministry of Property and Land Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Subsequently the premises will become the property of the region.

Deputies asked for clarification on the basis of what request the decision was made and what the future fate of the specified properties would be. Svetlana Pompaeva explained that the administration had received a letter from the regional ministry of property, and there was also a directive from the governor issued following a meeting dedicated to the development of historical territories.

“There is a protocol of the meeting dated 28 March 2025 chaired by Governor Gleb Nikitin, at which issues of pre-investment policy regarding historical quarters were considered. The discussion included Alekseevskaya and Ilyinskaya streets, as well as a number of buildings being considered jointly with ASIRIS. A concept for the revitalization of the ‘Gruzinskaya Street’ quarter has also been developed, which includes the property at 37a Bolshaya Pokrovskaya. In addition, work is underway on a revitalization project for the ‘Old Kanavino’ district,” Pompaeva noted.

Following the discussion, the deputies supported the draft resolution and also decided to send an official request to the Ministry of Property and Land Relations regarding all the properties under consideration.

Earlier it was reported that three historic buildings are to be restored in the center of Nizhny Novgorod.
