The Nizhny Novgorod Region has become one of the regions where pilot testing of driverless trucks will take place under an experimental legal regime. This is stated in Resolution No. 1790, signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on 13 November 2025.

In addition to the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the experiment involves Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Leningrad, Novgorod, Sverdlovsk, Tver and Vladimir regions, as well as the republics of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan and Chuvashia.

The document clarifies that the experiment will run until 12 November 2028. The list includes regions through which the M-12 motorway — one of the country’s key transport arteries — passes.

As part of the trials, engineers will be able to operate trucks without physical contact with the steering wheel and pedals. It is also planned to check the safety of the vehicles and ensure there are no unauthorized alterations to their design.

Earlier it was reported that driverless trucks would be launched on the M-12 after testing on the M-11 highway in the Moscow Region.

Recall that the map of rest areas and electric charging stations on the M-12 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region was updated.
