A memorial plaque to a hero of the special military operation was unveiled at Nizhny Novgorod School No. 97.

      A ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque in memory of Sergey Zaitsev — a graduate of Nizhny Novgorod School No. 97 who died while carrying out combat missions during the special military operation — was held at School No. 97 in Nizhny Novgorod. The Lenin District administration reported this.

      Teachers, students, and the fighter’s relatives and friends gathered for the solemn event. Attendees honored his memory with a minute of silence.

      Speaking to those present, head of the Lenin District Sergey Lukoyanov recalled that in July 2023 Sergey Zaitsev was awarded the Order of Courage for his displayed heroism. He received a second award — also the Order of Courage — posthumously. Lukoyanov emphasized that district residents will be proud of their fellow resident and preserve his memory. He also noted that Sergey graduated from School No. 97 in 2018, and that a plaque dedicated to his feat has now been installed within its walls.

      School principal Vera Osenchugova said that students will now have the opportunity to remember each day a person who studied within these walls and became an example of courage and devotion to his duty. According to her, Sergey dreamed of becoming a soldier from a young age and was very determined. The school will keep his memory alive and pass it on to future generations of students.

      It was previously reported that the Order of Courage was handed over to the family of Nizhny Novgorod SMO hero Ruslan Kamaev.

      Also, recall that a graffiti mural honoring SMO hero Alouddin Mirzorakhimov was unveiled in Nizhny Novgorod.
