Nizhny Novgorod developers, with the support of the People's Front, presented the UAV "Duga".
"The idea behind the drone is that it can take off from any point, without a catapult. It takes off vertically like a quadcopter, reaches a certain altitude and, on the operator’s command, switches to airplane mode. The aircraft is called 'Duga'; it can fly up to 50 km with a payload of up to 1.5 kilograms. It can be used as an attack drone or a reconnaissance drone. If a reconnaissance drone, the payload would be a camera and an additional battery; if an attack drone, then one battery and a warhead," said Sergey, a representative of Chimera, a company producing special communications equipment and UAVs.
According to him, the company’s main profile for a long time has been software, means for relaying communications, video links, and fiber-optic spools.
"We decided that if we have everything except the carrier, then we will make it, combining all our knowledge into one whole," Sergey explained.
"They were interested in the absence of a catapult — in real combat conditions deploying one is inconvenient; you become visible to the enemy. Vertical takeoff offers great advantages: it does not reveal the position and allows you to get closer to the enemy," Sergey added.
The drone was named after the "Duga" fiber-optic spool, which is also manufactured by Chimera.
The ground control station and the boards for these spools were developed and manufactured by the developers themselves. They are supplied to the zone of the special military operation, and also, as part of volunteer activities, to training centers for novice pilot training.
The Kulibin Club of the People's Front is engaged in selecting, testing, and supporting the serial production of the best developments by domestic engineers. Thanks to this initiative, it has been possible to deliver thousands of innovative electronic warfare tools to the front line to counter enemy drones, quadcopters, self-propelled trolley-robots, and much, much more.
