What has changed at the Balakhna Central District Hospital after the governor's criticism?

Balakhna Central District Hospital is taking urgent measures to improve the situation after criticism from the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The state of the medical institution was described by Alexey Nikonov, editor-in-chief of "Stacionar-press."
Acting chief physician Oleg Chernov, who took charge of the institution less than two months ago, acknowledged that there are many problems in Balakhna healthcare. At the same time, some of them have already been resolved. For example, the central district hospital has hired an endocrinologist and an oncologist, stepped up outreach medical screenings, and focused on reducing accounts payable.
The hospital intends to continue efforts to recruit medical staff and to improve communication with patients. Now, if residents have difficulty making an appointment with a doctor, they can contact the hospital via social media — doctors promise to respond promptly to inquiries.
Together with the regional Ministry of Health, the hospital is developing a priority action plan. The updating of project documentation and the cost estimate for a major overhaul of the inpatient facility has already begun. As a temporary measure, district general practitioners from Nizhny Novgorod have been sent to Balakhna.
It is worth recalling that Governor Gleb Nikitin personally visited the central district hospital earlier and was extremely dissatisfied with what he saw. The regional head then instructed Health Minister Galina Mikhailova to urgently develop an anti-crisis plan. He also ordered that the inpatient facility be included in the list of sites for repair under future activities of the federal program "Modernization of Primary Care" of the national project "Healthcare."
