The prosecutor's office has taken an interest in the spill of petroleum products in Kstovo District.

      The Nizhny Novgorod transport prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into a spill of petroleum products near Royka station on the Gorky Railway, the agency’s press service reported.

      According to the press service, compliance with legislation governing safety of movement on rail transport, as well as environmental safety regulations, will be examined. The prosecutor’s office intends to thoroughly study all circumstances of the incident. If violations are found, appropriate prosecutorial response measures will be taken.

      Recall that an initial survey of the area was conducted on 6 November following appeals from local residents. It showed that petroleum products entered the Chyornaya River and then a pond. According to the regional Ministry of Ecology, the situation is under special control and work to eliminate the consequences of the spill continues on site.
