The State Duma proposed limiting surcharges on airline tickets during holidays.

      The head of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society and Issues of Public and Religious Associations, Yana Lantratova, proposed reducing the markup on air tickets during holiday periods. This was reported by 360.ru.

      The lawmaker sent an appeal to Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin requesting that a maximum level for the markup on air tickets be established. According to her, during holidays domestic airfares rise significantly, making them unaffordable for many citizens.

      Lantratova emphasized that due to rising prices many Russians cannot afford trips to relatives in other regions or travel. Vulnerable groups particularly suffer, such as families with children, students, pensioners and residents of remote regions where air service is the main means of connection with other subjects of the Russian Federation.

      To address this problem the deputy proposed introducing a system of "price corridors" when booking tickets for holiday dates. This will allow controlling deviations from the average market price for the same period. She also called for the development of incentives for early booking that would provide advantageous conditions for purchasing tickets 30–45 days before departure.
