Experts: in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast the number of DDoS attacks is lower than in neighboring regions.
05 November 2025 15:13 MTS, with the help of analysts from RED Security, presented the results of a study of DDoS attacks for the third quarter of 2025. The Volga region maintains its lead in the number of cyberthreats since the beginning of the year; however, Nizhny Novgorod experienced fewer attacks than other major regions of the district.
From July to September RED Security Anti-DDoS detected and blocked nearly 50.5 thousand cyberattacks across Russia. Organizations in the Volga Federal District accounted for 17% of federal DDoS attacks; since the beginning of the year it has held first place in the country by number of cyberincidents.
The main targets of cybercriminals were the telecommunications sector, e-commerce, and the oil and gas sector. Together they accounted for more than 80% of the total number of incidents. Specialists at RED Security — MTS’s cybersecurity subsidiary — noted an increase in attacks on public-sector organizations in various regions of the Volga area, as well as in the construction and transport sectors. The top three regions by number of attacks against them were Samara Region, Saratov Region and Bashkortostan. Nearly 90% of all DDoS attacks in the Volga region were recorded in these regions.
The most powerful DDoS attack in the Volga region peaked at 38 Gbit/s. The record for duration was set by an attack on a Samara telecom operator — it lasted 6.5 hours.
"Hacktivists are increasing their activity in the Volga region, and attack methods are constantly evolving. Ignoring the risks means putting your own business at risk and suffering financial losses. To effectively counter threats, companies need to regularly check their infrastructure for vulnerabilities, implement modern monitoring and mitigation tools, use reliable cloud services, and train staff in basic cybersecurity," said MTS director in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Andrey Belov.
