The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, congratulated the region’s residents on National Unity Day on November 4, stressing that this date has special meaning for Nizhny Novgorod.
According to him, it was the Nizhny Novgorod land that became the birthplace of the militia that liberated the country from invaders, and the Kremlin walls preserve the memory of Kuzma Minin’s appeal and the dispatch of the people’s army to the capital. He called preserving the memory of the compatriots’ feat a sacred duty.
Nikitin emphasized that National Unity Day is also a Day of Military Glory, a day of cohesion for Russia’s multinational people. He recalled the motto of the liberation movement of 1612: "All together for unity." He noted that under the leadership of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky the people’s army expelled the enemy from Moscow and brought an end to the Time of Troubles, defending the land, language and culture. The governor stated that this historical experience confirms that only in unity, with faith and determination, can victories be achieved, and that these values remain relevant today.
The head of the region noted that Nizhny Novgorod has always been among the most faithful defenders of Russian statehood, and that the people of Nizhny Novgorod, together with the whole country, defend Russia’s right to its own path and choice.
"We are faithful to age-old traditions and ideals — to preserve and honor the legacy of our ancestors, to love our Motherland, to respect history and value its lessons," he said.
Addressing residents, Nikitin emphasized the strength of the common cause and wished everyone strong unity and spiritual bearings:
"Dear residents of Nizhny Novgorod, together we are capable of reaching the most incredible heights, bringing the boldest ideas to life and achieving success in any endeavor. May unity always reign in your families, cities and districts, and in your work collectives. I wish everyone to keep in their hearts faith, kindness and love for their native land!"
