Nizhny Novgorod Region, based on the results for the first nine months of 2025, ranked fourth in Russia in the number of road traffic accidents involving personal mobility devices (PMDs), including electric scooters, hoverboards and unicycles. This is stated in a review of road traffic accidents prepared by the Scientific Center for Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the review, from January to September the region recorded 143 such accidents.
By the number of registered incidents, Nizhny Novgorod Region is surpassed only by Moscow, Kostroma Region and Saint Petersburg.
Analysts note that accidents involving PMDs have a pronounced seasonal pattern. The peak rise in road traffic accidents occurs during the warm period of the year—especially in June. The first noticeable increase in the number of incidents is recorded as early as April, when users begin to actively use personal mobility devices.
A total of 2,959 road traffic accidents involving PMDs were recorded in the country in the nine months of 2023. These accidents resulted in 54 deaths and 3,062 injuries. Among the injured were 956 minors.
According to experts, the majority of those injured are people of young and middle age. At the same time, 38.5% of the injured are adolescents aged 10 to 17. The number of those injured begins to decline from the 25–29 age group as age increases.
It was previously reported that the scooter rental season in Nizhny Novgorod ended on October 15.
